Coed y Brenin

Coed y Brenin

Coed y Brenin was the first forest to be developed for mountain biking back in 1997 and it’s still one of Britain’s best trail centres. It has an ever-increasing network of all-weather singletrack trails, from a short green to the 38km Beast of Brenin, and they’ve just been awarded funding to extend the blue-graded Minortaur. Six of the eight trails are graded red or black, so there’s plenty for more experienced riders to get their teeth into. There’s a well-stocked bike shop on site and a big cafe too.

THE TRAILS:

YR AFON (11KM, GREEN)

TEMTIWR (8.7KM, RED)

MBR (18.4KM, BLACK)

Y FFOWNDRI (SKILLS AREA, PURPLE)

MINORTAUR (10KM, BLUE)

Aimed at newbies, the blue trail’s wide tracks can also be ridden by riders with disabilities on adaptive mountain bikes.

CWFLYM COCH (10.8KM, RED)

A tough climb ensures you gain plenty of elevation for the descent, which strings together some great fun and fast-flowing sections such as ‘Dream Time’ and ‘Uncle Fester’.

DRAGON’S BACK (31.1KM, RED)

This long trail rewards your efforts with epic views of Snowdonia’s mountains and superb singletrack that eats up the distance with ease.

TAWR DU (20.2KM, BLACK)

The original Coed y Brenin trail is still well worth a ride. It was recently updated with a new section of rock slabs and fly-offs.

BEAST OF BRENIN (38.2KM, BLACK)

As the name suggests, The Beast is a massive undertaking. Almost all on singletrack, it brings together the MBR and Dragon’s Back trails in one big challenge filled with rocky climbs and technical descents.
